Spàrr is the Gaelic word for rivet. The Spàrr project is a partnership with Theatre Hebrides. Inspired and co-ordinated by Fablevision (Govan, Glasgow) as a collaboration between locally based theatre and training for work company CRAN in Govan and Theatre Hebrides (Stornoway based training for work Theatre and Media Company). Spàrr will reveal the skills, motivations and inspirations of those people from the Western Islands who were inspired by the craft of the shipwright and travelled to Govan to continue to work in the ship building industry. Participants will consider the significance of the industry, of the shipwright, and the legacy left by our seafaring cultures.
The partnership between Fablevision and Theatre Hebrides is both managerial and artistic with each company taking the lead in their own location. The project will be developed through artists residencies which will be informed by cross generational dialogue, storytelling, film, craft and traditional skills.
