Action Learning & Research Projects

Fablevision has a creative team of artists fully trained in the cultural planning approach who have developed strong relationships with communities and agencies over the years.

Our artistic interventions is conducted as an investigation; an enquiry into questions like: 'Using cultural planning methodology, is it possible to effect transformation in the reas of attitudes towards people in with a disability? or in a marginalised neighbourhood? or with disenfranchised people?

This work has resulted in the development of public space, parks, new social enterprises/community development trusts, galleries and cafes.

What difference does this approach make to a neighbourhood?

The impacts have been in terms of jobs, training and employment; people moving into a neighbourhood instead of out of it; engaging in a series of creative processes which build, one upon the other, towards the final goal: theatre performances, lighting and sound installations, community films and public artworks.

A cultural planning approach begins with a process called 'mapping' of cultural resources. Artists are well placed to see the potential in the apparently least promising of environments.

With more and more recognition of the potential of Cultural Planning, Fablevision is Scotland's first port of call for training, advice, consultancy and project development in cultural planning. This recognition starts in the grass roots communities with whom we work, and extends right to Scottish Government with our involvement in 7 out of the 13 Cultural Pathfinders.
