LOCHSIDE – PEOPLE AND PLACE PROJECT
Film Premiere in Lochside, Ayr.

In January 2007 Fablevision and Ayrshire Initiatives agreed to work in partnership to create a project to train young people in filmmaking in order for them to make a documentary film capturing the communities views on the changes taking place in their area.

As a culmination of this work a premiere screening will take place of the film on Sunday 3rd of June 2007.

The Project

Over the last few months the younger community members of the Lochside area have been working closely with a team of Fablevision film artists. The result of this process has been the creation of an insightful film about their local area, as it is now, how it has been in the past and what their thoughts and hopes are as to what it might be like in the future.

Two of the streets in Lochside are about to undergo a huge transformation, the houses are scheduled to be demolished and collection of brand new ones built. After deciding on using this redevelopment as their focal point the young people explored what it means to live in Lochside. They interviewed local residents to find out what the issues were in the community and how they could be addressed.

This film has given both the young people and the community the opportunity to present their views in a constructive and creative way.

Mona Keeling and David Stamp, Film artists at Fablevision said: "We would like to thank the people of Lochside for all the work that they have put in to make this film. We've really enjoyed working alongside for the last five months. We hope that this film stimulates positive discussion about the exciting transformation happening in Lochside."

Louise Christie, Director of Ayrshire Initiatives said: "Making this film has given young people and other residents in Lochside a great opportunity to have their say about the changes happening in the area. This is only a first stage and we will be working with all local residents to make sure that their hopes and aspirations are at the core of a new Lochside that everyone can be proud of."

There are two free screenings open to all, at 3:30pm and 4:00pm, they will take place in a Cinema Marquee on Braehead School playing field, Gould St, Lochside, Ayr.
