The Scottish Wars Of Independence
Inverclyde Creative Links team have been working closely with Fablevision to create an exciting new project, the final outcome of which will be the creation of a short film about the Scottish Wars of Independence that can be used throughout Inverclyde schools in the future.
Two Fablevision film artists have been working with three primary schools using both; Continued Professional Development Training for teachers and Practical Pupil Training for the young people involved. These sessions give the pupils the chance to practice their newly developed skills before the main shoot, this will include storytelling, filming of visual artwork and a film excursion to Bannockburn. Two copies of the edited film will then be given to each school and can be used as a valuable learning resource for any other pupils studying this project.
The Scottish Wars of Independence were a series of military campaigns fought between Scotland and England in the Late 13th and early 14th centuries. The wars were part of a great national crisis for Scotland and quickly became one of the most defining moments in the nation’s history making the key players, such as Robert the Bruce and William Wallace a huge focus of national pride.
Jerdan Taylor, Visual Film Artist on the project says:
“It has been really exciting working with the students and staff in the Inverclyde area. The project has given the young people not only the opportunity to learn about their own national history but also to be able to express themselves in a medium they may never have been introduced to before. It is a new experience for them as they are not only learning about the subject but have the chance to teach each other and help their future peers to learn in a more exciting way.”
