“Troon In Bloom”
Heritage Arts Project, South Ayrshire Council 2007
Artworks Leading to ideas for heritage trail signs
Over three months schools in the Troon area were working closely with a visual artist from Fablevision (Pamela So) in order to explore different heritage topics relating to their community. They had been involved in visual arts workshops which will generate ideas for the future heritage signage in and around Troon.
In these workshops the primary school pupils had been studying Troons history, from farming and the celtic saints to smuggling and Fullarton House whos inhabitants played a key role in the history of the town. The result of these sessions with Pamela and the hard work of all the participants was the creation of many imaginative ideas for signs that the young people involved feel would liven up future heritage trails and encourage more people to take advantage of what the Troon area has to offer.
Pamela So, Visual Artist on the Project said: “My work with the primary 5 and 6 pupils over the last few months has given them the opportunity to create ideas for heritage trail signs using a visual arts medium, they have learned about the history of their area and been given a chance to express how they feel their community would benefit from a more artistic approach to its development. The whole experience has been fun and informative for everyone involved and one that I have really enjoyed.”
An Exhibition of these artworks was held in the Walker Halls in Troon on Wednesday 13th of June.
