FABLEVISION CPI
Cultural Planning
The Fablevision approach to policy and planning is called Cultural Planning. Cultural planning is a culturally sensitive approach to all planning and policy. Fablevision’s Cultural Planning Institute develops examples of cultural planning practice applied within different policy contexts. The CPI disseminates that practice, and delivers practice based learning programmes in the “how to” use cultural planning approaches in different policy contexts. In partnership with associates, we have developed examples of practice in learning, social services, housing , regeneration, planning.
Voyage of Dreams
Our learning and dissemination plan between 2010 and 2014 is called VOYAGE OF DREAMS.
A major contract with Gerry Hassan’s Scottish Wave of Change project for the Cultural Olympiad has allowed the CPI to co-ordinate a programme of conversations locally (in Govan and Pollok) and nationally in partnership with SURF and Highlands and Islands Enterprise. A Scottish wave of Change has launched the Fablevision group on a journey of adventure, creativity, discovery and sharing of experiences. “Voyage of Dreams” takes its inspiration from the symbolism of the Olympic Torch. In the ancient Celtic tradition of the Cran Tara where a burning torch was carried from community to community warning of danger or inciting rebellion, young people in Govan are learning to sail the East End Endeavour around Scotland: gathering stories of change, sharing stories of change from elsewhere, changing crews and on board artists at every stop, and generating a tsunami of change in time for 2012.

Culturally Sensitive
In Govan, Fablevision and the Pearce Institute have been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund to drive a culturally sensitive approach to the development of the cultural and heritage campus at the heart of Govan. In partnership with the Galgael Trust, Govan Old Parish Church, and the Centre for Human Ecology, we are conducting a “Future of your Past” programme of futures thinking dialogues involving local people and organizations. Our cultural planning approach is punctuating these conversations with creative projects: from Changing Tack in March 2010 to our ambitious Govan Oratorio in December 2010
Friends of Rosshall Park
In Pollok, we are using a cultural planning approach to working in partnership with the Friends of Rosshall Park. In June 2010 we staged a Victorian Garden Party to raise the profile, attract support and impact upon the regeneration of an important but neglected local cultural resource.
Social Entrepreneur
Fablevision’s CPI is headed up by social entrepreneur, Liz Gardiner. Masters Research Fellow in European Cultural Planning, Liz serves on the board of Senscot and has supported the development of the Development Trust Association for Scotland, the Social Enterprise Academy, Firstport (for which organisation she acts as an agent). Liz has supported the development of local, national and European level networks – continuing to serve on the boards of the Arts and Communities Association for Scotland and Banlieues d’Europe.
