VOYAGE OF DREAMS
Voyage of dreams provides an opportunity for young people who come from all over Scotland to participate in a sea voyage around the coast of Scotland. Having participated in and recorded cultural events in their own community, the young people will carry with them stories and experiences that they can share with others on the voyage.
The Shipping Forecast
This Shipping forecast is for Voyage of Dreams 2011: an exciting opportunity for young people living in island communities around Scotland to embark on a cultural journey meeting other young people from the mainland and from urban locations.
Voyage of Dreams is a literal journey (they will sail a boat called East End Endeavour) as well as a metaphorical one (they will tell stories, undertake creative processes, and share their findings with a wide audience through A Scottish Wave of Change) visiting, sharing stories and experiences with other communities on the way.
The First Voyage
Throughout 2010, Fablevision has been working with young people on a series of pilot "mini-voyages" to create a "competent crew" for the main event this year. Sailing skills (they all gained their RYA Competent Crew certificates), filming and editing (many gaining their Final Cut Pro qualifications) were core skills required for the journey and they recorded their experiences on the way from the first voyage.
A cultural social enterprise with charitable status, Fablevision is a “group” of social enterprise companies whose members (individually and collectively) share values and working practices.
Five Learn The Ropes
The Fablevision Group can supply everything you need by way of community cultural development: from cultural planning consultancy to project development and delivery; from supporting emerging cultural social entrepreneurs/enterprisesto training and learning in applying the methodology in your own community.
They gained expertise and polished their film skills on the second voyage and finally, in the third voyage, meeting local people: elderly residents in Govan and Rothsay to document the experience and to tell the stories of those communities.
Doon The Watter
Doon the Watter is a film about a journey. Tim and I, both accepted onto a 6-month placement with Fablevision, were afforded this opportunity to take a journey through the history, culture and community of Glasgow and Rothsay through the medium of film. The film aims to capture people’s experiences and memories of the impact of the Clyde on their communities. The making of the film has allowed Tim and I to obtain invaluable experience of not only the production process, but also the special experience of being involved in the communities we visited and explored. This has been a momentous experience for Tim and I and it would not have been possible without the excellent support and advice from those at Fablevision and also the generosity of Sam Patterson who facilitated our voyage on his boat the East End Endeavour.
